TESTING CONDITIONS AGAINST
THE BOHEMIANS
Well it was a tough task being set 277 to win on Sunday. The
bowling had been good in places (Deavs and K***** both taking
a couple of wickets) and erratic in others, George and new
man John both competing to bowl the record number of wides
in an over (George just nicking it with 6 against John's 5)
but we were punished for a dropped catch at slip (Simon missing
a low chance) when we had the Bohemians reeling on around
20 for 2. Unfortunately the batsman in question rode his luck
and went on to fill his boots, retiring on scoring his century.
Simon tried to make amends with a characteristically doughty
half-century, as did George with a healthy 26 (which we'll
call 20 having subtracted the wides), and Guy and K***** also
getting into the action with scores in the twenties. Sadly
we were always going to be punished for some lax fielding
and too many extras and struggle to keep up with the rate
as a result, finishing approximately 50 short of the target.
Still, a good match in testing conditions, and a bad toss
to lose.
Champagne Moment went to Popsy (Simon P for
the uninitiated) who somehow managed to throw the ball backwards
over his head and clear the boundary rope whilst fielding
a single out deep, thereby turning 1 into 4. Priceless.
