Match 21 (24th scheduled), 2010: 18 September

Wembley CC vs Pimlico Strollers CC

Wembley win in spite of Holmes hundred
posted: September 27, 2010

Despite a magnificent maiden century of 135no from Graeme Holmes we managed to lose a time game against Wembley CC, our obliging hosts for a hastily re-arranged fixture as the original opposition NLCC, cancelled on us on Friday morning!

A new opposition where we had no idea what their strengths were and looking at them, a few colts, a girl, several older gentlemen and octogenarian twins, I thought it best to bat when winning the toss. Being a time game, light etc. we declared at 4.15pm having scored 227, which was time for a very splendid tea and we felt comfortable that resuming at 4.40pm where there were 20 overs from 5.45pm that we should be chasing down that season parity win. However if ever there was a case for not judging books by their covers this was it. When they were in the field they bowled well, only gave away 6 extras all innings with one of the octogenarian twins bowling 10 very good overs on the trot! And batting their skip was obviously a very accomplished bat pacing his innings brilliantly as he and number 3 put on 180+ scoring 93 and 81 respectively. As such they passed our total with an over to spare. Weather wise it was a good day, an enjoyable game and of course Mr Holmes' ton!
