Duck Sandwich
Friday's 20/20 game against the Railway Taverners saw the
Strollers lose once again to something of a one man team.
This is turning into a habit. Not that scoring a ton in 20
overs suggests he might have been a ringer or anything. Some
controversial umpiring decisions (umpire giving a no ball
after the ball had ballooned and been safely caught by Simon
at point) did not help the Strollers cause either.
Taverners posted 177 as a result, pick of the
Strollers bowling coming from David (1 for 19 off 4), Chris
(1 for 28 off 4) and George (2 for 18 off 2). It was always
going to need a strong start from the Strollers, and with
Matt and Simon opening and both failing to trouble the scorers
after balls that failed to bounce, it was an uphill battle.
David and George set about repairing the damage until George
ran David out for 25. Anxious to make amends, George went
on to score a fine 50 and was helped by some lusty blows from
Dickie making 23.
The middle order failed to spark with new Strollers
James and Chris also getting grass-cutters from Cec (Cess?
Sess?), and the Strollers batting card started to look like
a duck sandwich. Huw's efforts down the order - another useful
innings of 25 - were sadly scored when the game was really
beyond us, and we finished 25 runs short of target on 152.
