Strollers openers star to hand heavy defeat to HICCs

We gladly recorded our second win on the bounce yesterday afternoon with a resounding victory by 89 runs over old foes the Highgate Irregulars at Old Cholmeleians.
With Harry again winning the toss on a hot, sunny afternoon we batted first and truly made hay with Abhik and Kash putting on a show of peerless strokeplay on their way to a record–breaking opening stand of 203! With Kash initially playing a supporting role Abhik led the charge as he carded a superb ton only to finally fall for 111, Nelson striking again. Kash meanwhile notched up a deserved half century before holing out to Derek, lurking in the deep.
From there, the HICCs just succeeded in limiting us to a sub-300 score despite some powerful hitting from Harry who raced to 34 before Tony sent down a yorker to see him off. We closed on 294-8 which would certainly take some getting.
After the turnaround we made early inroads with Adam again claiming an early breakthrough alongside ringer Imran who helped see off the openers. We knew that with Alex Gray and Tony Mitchell still to come there always remained a risk of retribution but, thankfully, this wasn’t to be their day and both were bowled cheaply by Kash.
Only Mohammed gave the HICCs any hope and he powered on to 84 whilst wickets tumbled around him until Spencer found a way through. But, with the required run rate now rising above any real possibility of a home win, we inevitably walked off to claim the spoils. Big thanks go to Garry, Abu and Imran – recruited at the last minute from The Fixture List website to make up our numbers after a number of injuries – and we hope to see them in Strollers colours again sometime. In the meantime, let’s hope we can keep our winning streak going!
