Railway Taverners rain on our parade
posted: May 12, 2013
The Strollers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory today at a wet and windy Ferme Park, being dismissed all out agonisingly just four runs from the 213 target set by the Railway Tavern. It had all started so well with the Taverners slumping to 134-7 and Spencer picking up his first five-for of the season, but a game changing 70 run 8th wicket stand enabled the oppo to creep over the 200 mark.
By the time we got to bat, the pitch had become slow and soggy, but Spencer managed to hit a classy 67 whilst contributions from Dickie (27) and Tom (39) helped us bring the target into view. But while the run rate remained good throughout, wickets were falling with too much regularity for comfort and, when Simon was dsimissed first ball, the 10 man Strollers simply ran out of batsmen to finish the job. An exciting match but the result reflected the gloomy surroundings... hopefully winning ways will return soon along with the sun!
