Match 10 (13th scheduled), 2013: 7 July

Pimlico Strollers CC vs Exiles CC

Strollers winning chances exiled again
posted: July 8, 2013

Another well contested match but again another loss, this time to the tune of a 5 wicket defeat to the Exiles at a sweltering Ferme Park yesterday. Having lost the toss and being sent into the field, hopes were raised as Tom struck in the second over. But the early signs of promise were hampered as the oppo's number three Anupam was scandalously let off the hook in the face of an apparently clear run out, and then exaspirated as he went on to hit a towering 151. The bowling remained generally good — with Jez in particular proving effective with his looping swingers — but the baking 30 degree heat caused the side to tire and sadly the 2013 blight of spilled catches continued. In the end the Exiles closed on a daunting 268-6.

After an elongated tea break to watch history being made by Mr Murray at Wimbledon, hopes were again raised as Gav and Matt opened with a flurry of well hit boundaries off the opening overs. But then Gav was beaten on 18 by one that straightened it's line and Matt followed suit in identical fashion, leaving it once again to Spencer to pile on the runs. This of course he did, hitting an explosive 72 before playing on from his pads. The rest of the order did their best to keep up with the 8 an over rate — Tim(27) and Tom (16) in particular doing well to find the gaps in a very defensive field now posted fully back on the boundary — but the ball made contact too often with the stumps and by the time we'd hit 217 the game was up when Simon's final wicket tumbled. Ho hum.

The search for the elusive third win of the season continues...
