Ploughmans CC vs Pimlico Strollers CC

Strollers back to parity with deft win in Dulwich

Strollers vs Ploughmans, 4 July 2021

Following last Wednesday's hard fought T20 victory over the Archway Ladder, the Strollers yesterday notched up a back-to-back win away to the Ploughmans XI south of the river at Dulwich Sports Club.

It didn't start well though – having lost the toss we were put in and, for the second successive Sunday, suffered a diamond duck when (for the first time in his long Strollers career) George was dismissed from his first delivery. Matters were made worse when Spencer was oddly bowled by Spencer having made just 4. Varun, having been promoted to open our innings, hit a quickfire 21 before he was bowled by Rees and then Tim, making his first welcome appearance of the season, managed to get to double figures before he holed out to Rajasurya.

It wasn't until Abhik made it to the middle that our innings kicked into gear and whilst, by his own admission, he rode his luck a little he managed to put bat to ball. After Ron had been bundled out for just a couple, Harry was next in and continued in his rich vein of form, striking the ball cleanly and mounting a vital partnership with the skipper. Both had hit well-earned half centuries before Abhik was caught off Rahul for 69 and Harry was trapped by Stevenson for 54. Our tail wagged a little before, in the last of our 40 overs, we were eventually dismissed for a respectable 197.

Defending that total though would require a good performance with the ball and thankfully this was what was delivered. Ravi – returning to the Strollers fold after a two year absence – cleaned out opener Iqbal without scoring and Spencer followed that with a brace of wickets, dismissing Niebeer and Tisato. A resurrgence from the Ploughmans' middle order threatened to swing the momentum back towards the oppo but thankfully the sharp run out of Wright (25) was followed up by a sharper stumping from Tim to see off Wolledge for 43.

Débutant Priyanshu collected a couple more wickets and some typically tight stuff from Ron at the death ensured that the oppo's efforts would fall short of the target and, when their 40 overs were up, Ploughmans closed on 167, some 30 runs adrift.

Another good win then, and one which brings our season's tally back to parity. Well played, lads!
