Strollers see off HICCs to seal first win of the season

Strollers recorded their first win of the season yesterday with a great all round team effort to beat the Highgate Irregulars away from home at Old Cholmeleians.
The Irregulars won the toss and put us in to bat on what looked a sticky, slow wicket which had been doused with heavy overnight rain and was now baking in the afternoon sun. They got early breakthroughs getting rid of 3 of the top 5 before 40 was on the board, but some brilliant mid order batting from Abhik (69), Ron and Harsh in or around the 40s and anothergood knock from Sid got us to a very competitive 232-8 off of over 35 overs.
After the usual very agreeable classic tea as always served at the Old Chomeleians we took to the field knowing a good bowling and fielding display may secure that first win. Abhik and Ron opened the bowling and kept it really tight, supported by good fielding from an enhanced mobile out field with the addition of George's brother and two cousins who over the next 30 overs showed they could catch taking good catches in the deep as well as cousin Ben turning his arm over for the first time in 20 years and taking 2 wickets and cousin John keeping wicket for the 2nd half of the game. Dave G and Sid were the 2nd change bowlers and where Sid had the batsmen in all sorts of trouble bowling immaculate line and length and restricting any scoring, Dave G was finding some late swing in the humid, muggy conditions and induced several mishit shots to take a well earned 3 wickets.
All bowlers bowled well and all got at least one wicket which backed up by some top fielding meant that we never really looked in trouble after the mid session drinks. A good days cricket and great to get the first win, well done to all involved.
