Bohemians blast their way past Strollers in tight T20

Our final scheduled T20 clash of the season, set on a sweltering hot evening at North Middlesex CC, ended frustratingly with the Battersea Bohemians edging past the target of 171 we had set them, with just two balls to spare. The 9 wicket margin of the Bohos' victory flattered to deceive following what had been a tightly contested match throughout.
Having been sent in we overcame a toubled start – Kash failing to repeat his heroics from Sunday and he, alongside Gav, fell cheaply at the start. However this made way for Spencer and Ron to take centre stage who took it in turns to clobber anything slightly short or off line to all parts. Smashing an astonishing 162 partnership between them, the pair helped us post a sizeable total of 170-4, with both notching up invaluable half centuries – Ron unlucky to miss out on a rare T20 ton, having been well caught by Richard Meier in the deep for 90.
At the changeover we felt rightly confident of victory, however such confidence took an immediate dent when the Bohos carted Dave's first over for 16. However, Kash and eventually Dave managed to reassert some control on the run rate and, for a while, all looked rosy.
Unfortunately though, try as we might we just couldn't shift openers Jones or Brierley – several chances (4 in all) were offered up to those fielding in the deep – but none could cling onto a catch, and the Bohos made us suffer for our spillages. The hundred was passed without loss and, in the second half of their innings, the oppo hit the accelerator.
Gradually yet noticeabley the required run rate lowered back down from being in double figures per over to single digits. As the Bohos neared their target all we could celebrate was a single consolation wicket when Spencer had Jones yorked for an impressive 64. However, Brierley stuck to his task and, though we took the oppo into the final over of the game, on the fourth ball he took the opportunity to cart the delivery back over Ron's head for a huge six, thus claiming not only the spoils but also an unbeaten ton.
A disappointing result to be sure but a very competitive game nonetheless, and we look forward to renewing our acquainatnces with the Bohos next month when hopefully we can nab revenge!
