Honours even again at Chippers
posted: August 17, 2014
Stoic resistance from Simon and Gideon in the final overs enabled us to dig out a hard fought draw at Chippenham. Earlier in the day, with Boughey suffering a breakdown on the M11, we were unable to make best use of a greenish pitch and the hosts managed to post a sizeable 251-3 which included a standout unbeaten century from opener Ward who carried his bat.
Chippenham's opening bowlers each then turned in pacy probing spells which restricted scoring opportunities to the bare minimum. Having seen them off, Gav was able to open his shoulders a bit and hit a decent 32 before holing out to long on. But, with the loss of stand-in skipper Spencer shortly thereafter, any faint hopes we may have retained of an unlikely victory evaporated and the object of the exersize simply became survival. Abhi and Davey turned in handy knocks but, as wickets tumbled, the salvage operation became more and more frought. But sensible batting from our penultimate pair saw us home and honours remained even for another year.
