Sandon Strollers CC vs Pimlico Strollers CC

Pimlico on top in the clash of the Strollers

flypast at Sandon

The long wait for a third win of the season happily came to an end yesterday with an emphatic victory over namesakes the Sandon Strollers at their idyllic village green in north Herts. Having lost the toss and being sent in, we put on a strong showing with the bat — starting with an opening stand of 70 between Gav and Dave, each doing well to see off some probing front line bowling before both holed out after drinks to the young King.

This brought Spencer and Harsh to the wicket who in turn added a stylish hundred partnership, the latter scoring his first half century (61) of the season. However another drinks break pre-empted their demise so it was left to the middle order to take the score over 200 which was easily accomplished with a promising knock from débutant Ron Banerjee (18) and with Tim batting well to reach 34 not out at the close — aided by brother Mark (visiting from down under) and Dickie — we managed to post a formidable 256-6 from our allotted overs — the local flying circus were even kind enough to offer us a flypast (pictured)!

In response, Sandon's innings faltered from the start with star player Green being bowled for 4 by a beautiful delivery from Capn' Boughey who snicked the bail from off stump. Simon continued to find variable bounce and menace ensuring Sandon's innings never took off. With the exception of Rob — who unluckily remained wicketless — and Dickie, the remainder of the attack shared the wickets around with regularity. Spencer, Harsh and Mark Sturm (aka Strurminator 2? — Ed) bagged a well earned couple apiece (Boughey again helping the cause with a fine diving catch at short midwicket to dismiss Corrigan) and Mark Pelham happily collected his first wicket for the club. Behind the stumps, Dave constantly flustered the Sandon batsmen and took a stumping and a fine catch to his credit.

Ultimately, despite good knocks from Hughes (32) and Jones (49) Sandon never at any stage threatened to meet the required rate of 7+ per over and when play concluded the oppo were some 120 runs adrift. But gracious in defeat, our namesakes invited us down to the local pub afterwards to reflect on a very enjoyable day in the sun ...let's hope it shines on us from here on!
