Strollers cast Coronavirus aside with winning start to season at Chesham Bois
posted: July 14, 2020
After an enforced three month delay, owing to the COVID-19 outbreak, we were overjoyed and relieved to finally start our 2020 season last Sunday with a socially-distant win away to Chesham Bois, now home of erstwhile Stroller David 'De Dazzler' Haines.
However it was young Charlie (Haines Jnr) who set off early alarm bells as he swiftly dispatched our top order with his searing swing. Our rusty middle order fared little better and it was only thanks to David 'The Kitten' Couldrey's fine 45 that we were able to post a modest 131... but at least it was something to bowl at.
After a swift turnaround, sadly involving no tea due to Covid-restrictions, Varun repaid the oppo in kind - seeing off Chesham's top three in short order. Dangerman 'De Dazzler' failed to ignite and was caught off Rohit for just 6. Despite a late order revival in the shape of a good partnership between Vishal and Charlie, wickets continued to tumble and, in the end, Chesham limped past the hundred mark to be dismissed for 105, handing us the win.
However, just to get any cricket on at all in 2020 felt like the biggest victory... let's hope we can manage more in the weeks to come!
