Chancellors courtiers claim narrow win over Strollers at Old Cholms
posted: July 8, 2018
Our season of mixed fortunes took another twist this afternoon as we were narrowly beaten by touring side from Edinburgh, Chancellors Court. Having won the toss on yet another sweltering hot afternoon at Old Cholmeleians, George obviously opted to bat first. However early inroads and a faltering middle order looked to cost us dear until the ship was steadied later on by Kashif – who hit a stylish and unbeaten 65, well supported by Tom who hit 38. In the end we posted 229-8... a respectable score by any measure but not bullet-proof.
So it proved to be as the Chancellors' batsmen got stuck in with fifties apiece for Fursdon and Coles. We stuck at it with Tim deputising well behind the stumps (in the Kitten's enforced absence) to claim two well taken victims and we pushed the oppo all the way until the final over when, with just three balls to spare, they managed to edge over the winning line. So, back to parity then for the season's results tally but plenty more opportunities await to get us back into the black.
