Once again The White Horse, Soho last night played host for the Strollers' AGM – an annual event that in years gone by has frequently been prone to a disorderly descent into frenzied chaos. However yesterday's event went off without a hitch thanks in no small measure to the superb organisation of outgoing skipper Viral Doshi who, much as he has all year, put together a thoroughly enjoyable occasion for all involved.
Following a detailed and entertaining summary of the season's events and the customary bestowing of awards (details below) and, having received a thoroughly-deserved standing ovation for his exemplary service, Viral made way to returning officer Matt 'The Cat' Morgan who brought forth the Bucket of Justice.
As it was, despite Messrs Couldrey and Harvey doing their machiavellian best to maliciously land each other with the captaincy, the Bucket spoke and, after several rounds of voting returned George 'Mad Dog' Brown (pictured) to once again lead the Strollers as our skipper for the year ahead. David Gorton and (the absent) Abhik Ghosh were bestowed the honours of vice captaincy.
A special mention must go to Spencer Fowler who – in addition to kindly calculating the season averages (now published on the website) – collected a special award upon his outstanding achievement of this year being the first Stroller to pass 5,000 runs and 200 wickets. We may never see the like again. Congratulations too to Simon Boughey who collected the Stroller of the Year award following what may be his final full season for the club.
Moreover our heartfelt thanks must above all go to Viral for his superb leadership over the course of what has been a vintage year. He takes with him not only our gratitude but also the high achievement of being only the second victorious Strollers skipper at Chippenham ...no mean feat! Thanks again, Viral!
So now we look forward to what looks set to be another great year ahead, firstly with winter nets at Lord's – details to follow in due course – and then our pre-season April tour to Montenegro. If you would like to take part, please contact Tour Secretary Dave Couldrey for further details. And once again we happily have the steady hand of Captain Brown at the helm. Happy days ahead.
